personal ads
an ic meme

Before Bumble, and Tinder, and Facebook Marketplace, we had personals, a place where loneliness went to die.

The meme is simple — treat your top-level the way your character would treat a personal ad in the newspaper, or on Craigslist. They should write what they're searching for in the header, and fill the body with more details as needed. Advertise yourself! Be direct! Be honest!

Those who reply are likely here to flame you, but that's to be expected. No one said love was easy.

And in recording formats. "Transparent" formats aren't and I normally do my own CD rips.

And what time and which part?

OOC: Lydia literally has both supernatural hearing and a supernatural voice although the latter mostly gives her a ridiculous amount of vocal power.

I suppose that would explain the perfect pitch.

Five o'clock at the stage door.

[ooc: Erik is just...a musical genius, and an all-around genius, really, which I guess makes up for his deformed face?]

See you there.

Lydia turned up in a green sundress, hair up in a milkmaid's braid. She looked good and knew it but it wasn't going full out. And she knew that half the chorus line would at any given time be wearing less than she was. She looked round to see who this was and what he had to offer, fairly confident in her own abilities.

Erik arrives in, well, formal wear, because that's what he does, as ridiculous as it might be most of the time. Half of his face is covered by a mask, through which his eyes peer intensely. He gives her a calculating look. "Posture is good, that's a start." Right down to business, and he's going to be a strict teacher.

He holds the door open. "In we go. The practice room is to the right."

Lydia dipped a slightly mocking curtsey. "I'm not a professional dancer like most of those round here." But was a decent martial artist with the balance of someone who had learned martial arts to fight for her life. "You dress to impress and have made a virtue out of facial deficiencies?" She gestured to the mask. "Suits you." And headed to the practice room.

Posture is important in being able to play an instrument well, and he's about to respond to her slightly mocking tone when she makes her next comment. He's never heard anyone phrase it in quite that way -- especially the fact that he has to wear a mask -- and despite himself, he's impressed by her apparently nonchalant attitude about it. They might get along just fine.

"So do you at least know how to read music, or do we need to start there?"

Lydia shrugged. "I know the basics. But I'm pretty sure that knowing this is middle C." She sang a note, and was right about having perfect pitch. "And is between the treble and bass clef and knowing what sharps, flats, and bars are is about the equivalent of reading like a second grader. I can read the notes, which I guess is like reading the letters not the words."

Perfect pitch indeed. There's plenty here he can work with as a teacher to expand on whatever natural talent she has. "Good, we can start to put things together then, and make sense of what's on the page. You said you've had lessons before? How far have you gotten in them?"
