midnight texting

The Midnight Texting Meme It's the middle of the night and you're trying to catch some z's — or brooding alone in the alleys, as one does — when your phone dings and suddenly a stranger or a friend is texting you. What could they possibly want at this hour? Is it important? Stupid? Are they drunk or maybe just needy? ● Post with your character's name and canon on the subject line, indicate preferences as needed |

"Oh, uh, yeah... I obviously also spoke to her." He's not really sure if she meant to send Bucky here though. "No. I mean, yeah, this is okay. You don't need to get a hotel. Of course it's okay that you're here. I, uh, I made chimichangas and I'm working on elote."
no subject
Does he even want to know?
Maybe he shouldn't have come here. This is awkward. Even drunk, Joaquin is awkward. Maybe this is just what he does to people.
"Can I help?"
no subject
He offers a smile. "Yeah, you can help. It's mostly done, just gotta grill 'em up." It's awkward because of course it is. Joaquin made it awkward but he's also ridiculously happy that he hasn't completely fucked it up so he can get past the awkward.
He can.
Dios mio, he's glad he didn't just do a bunch of shots.
no subject
Joaquin probably still wants to though, so Bucky isn't even sure why he's here. "It's alright. Can't fault you for being honest." So he'll try not to.
"I'm good at grilling."
no subject
He offers another smile and then leads the way through to the kitchen. He doesn't know what to say to that, maybe something about how there's honest and there's making other people uncomfortable but sometimes those two things come hand-in-hand and he's honestly not sure he can talk about it without making it more uncomfortable.
"Then this is right up your alley, bro."
no subject
Not that he'll give up. He would never. He just needs some space.
He follows Joaquin into the kitchen, glancing around. "You made all of this while drunk?"
no subject
"I'm not drunk." He was tipsy, sure but he hadn't quite reached drunk, gracias a Dios, because that would have been embarrassing as hell. "Not wise to cook while drunk."
no subject
"Oh. Well that's good. I mean- for safety reasons." And other reasons as well, but Bucky doesn't know how to broach that topic after everything that has gone down. "I'm sorry. I don't know what I'm doing anymore. Everything feels like a mess. Pretty sure even my team is tired of me now."
no subject
"Yeah, I really didn't wanna explain to Sam that I cut my finger off trying to cut corn." Leaning his hip against the counter, Joaquin shoves his hands into his pockets. "They're not. Well, Yelena's not, at least. I think she's a little worried that we all kinda... broke you a little bit, actually. Which... I'm sorry Bucky. I shouldn't have put that on you like that."
no subject
Bucky nods. "When did he leave?" Not that he wants to dig for those details, but Sam wouldn't tell him either way. Or why- but he doesn't want to get too deep into it.
He snorts softly, scrubbing his hands over his face. "I want to heavily deny that, but- I think she might be right." No, he's not broken. It takes far more than that, but he's definitely shaken. He's never had to deal with anything like this before. Not even when he was younger. Definitely not when he was younger. "It wasn't you, Joaquin. It was a culmination of a lot of things."
no subject
“First thing this morning. Wanted to spend as much time with his nephews as he could.”
Joaquin returns to preparing the corn, not because he doesn’t wanna listen to Bucky but because he needs something do worn his hands before he does something stupid with them. “I didn’t help. I knew you were overwhelmed and I piled more things on top of that. Things that were true but not what you needed at the time.”
no subject
At least when it comes to fighting against a harmful entity they can stick together.
"That's good. Good for him. It's peaceful there." He misses it. He and Sam were so good in Delacroix. It was hopeful, and he thought he was finally figuring his life out. He had, in a way. He's come a long way since then, but- he still misses that time. He misses Sam.
Bucky wants to help with dinner, so he follows along with what Joaquin is doing as they talk. "I probably shouldn't have even come to you with it all. I just felt like you were removed enough from everything, that I could ask, but... you seem pretty involved with all of them."
They're all young. They all want to sleep around and have fun, probably. Or at least that's what he thought. He just doesn't know how he feels about it other than that.
no subject
Sam probably doesn't want to hear about Ava watching Yelena masturbate, after all.
"I've never been. I'd love to go though." He should also go visit his own parents in Miami at some point.
"You can always ask me. If I know the answer, I'm happy to help." And if he doesn't, he'll find out, still wanting to help. "I've only really spoken to Yelena and Ava. Oh and Mel, which... Still feels weird, for some reason." Maybe because she's so... official about everything. "I dunno, it's just good to have more people who relate to what's going on. Not like I can talk to my old Air Force buddies about it. I mean, I can but they don't relate the same way. It kinda also feels like bragging? Besides, if a big enough threat comes along, a name is gonna be the least of our worries. We should be able to work together and it'll go a lot smoother if we have an idea of who each other is."
no subject
Listen- Bucky doesn't want to hear about it either, and honestly he wonders why even Joaquin would want to hear about that.
"He'll probably invite you eventually." He hesitates, because he doesn't know if he should get into this, but he figures, why not. "I was there with him a few times. He used to invite me." Not anymore. A lot of things are just... not anymore.
"Yeah, I don't know- you really went off on a tangent with it all. Which- it's fine. I'm not upset about it. I just wasn't ready." When is he ever ready when it comes to anything like that? Maybe he won't ever be. "It's good that you can relate to them. I'm glad you have that. Maybe you're the one who should've come to NYC. You could've spent the weekend with them."
no subject
Even if the stuff with Sam is a mess. It won't always be. He hopes.
"Yeah, from what I've heard, it's the place to be." Joaquin smiles to himself, picturing the way Sam's face lit up whenever he talked about Sarah, AJ and Cass. "Oh yeah? Bet the kids would have loved you."
And that's it, isn't it? Bucky asked him a simple question and Joaquin kinda word vomited all over the place. "Yeahhh. I've been told I don't know when to shut up." Putting down the knife in his hand, Joaquin turns to look at Bucky. "I didn't want to spend the weekend with them. I wanted to spend it with you."
no subject
Bucky nods. "It's definitely the place to be." His heart squeezes hard. It's becoming as hard to talk about Sam these days as it's been, talking about Steve. He can barely do it anymore because of how much it hurts. No amount of time has every really made that feel better. But god, he's trying. "AJ and Cass are great. I used to like playing with them. They got such a kick outta my arm."
He doesn't want to talk about this anymore. He feels like the devastation of it all will swallow him up.
"You don't have to shut up Joaquin. I don't want to be the person who holds you back." He sighs softly, looking at the other man when he turns to look at him. "Still not really sure why," he practically mutters.
no subject
"Yeah, I can see why kids would think it's cool. Like a transformer or a terminator."
Huffing a soft laugh that probably sounds a little more like a scoff, Joaquin shakes his head. "Really? After everything I said... you're not sure why?"
no subject
Bucky stays quiet for a long moment, then shrugs. "You said a lot of confusing things, and most of it was- I don't know- a lot. It sounded like you were really into-- fooling around and being with almost every single member of my team, and... I don't get that, but I know I should respect it, and it's fine. But- that's just not me."
no subject
"I'm definitely open to fooling around with people. It's a great way to get tension out and sex is a lot of fun." He looks at Bucky seriously. "But that doesn't mean that's all I want. Would I sleep with them if the chance arose? Yes. Because I am a 28 year old, red blooded guy. But if the right person came along and wanted something more, then I'm down for that too. And, despite the sluttiness of what I said, I'm also a monogamous guy. When I'm with someone, it's just them."
no subject
Maybe he will with this bonding thing his team's got going on, too. Then again, it was all a misunderstanding? He thinks. So maybe there's nothing to give in to.
He blows out a breath that turns into a soft, humorless laugh. "Twenty eight, Jesus christ." All of this has only made him feel even older. How can he keep up? He's stayed away from this aspect of life for so long, that he feels utterly lost. "You're a really good guy, Joaquin. You should be out there having fun. I'm... old and outdated. My time for all of this- it ended a long time ago."
no subject
Joaquin shakes his head, taking a step closer into Bucky's space. "You might be a little old fashioned but you're time definitely hasn't ended." He didn't even really get a time to have it. Between the war and HYDRA and everything else. "You just need to give yourself permission to just... be you. Whoever that is now. And he's allowed to want things. Maybe they aren't so out of reach, either."
no subject
Sometimes it still feels like he's stuck, though. He's right back there in his dreams, in his nightmares, in the things he can't move on from- but he doesn't want to be.
Joaquin steps into his space and his gaze lowers, feeling his heart beating hard in his chest. He's allowed to want things. Bucky looks at Joaquin, those encouraging words wrapping around his heart. It's those words, and the way that Joaquin is looking at him that have him wanting to find out who he is, and to give himself the permission to do so.
He shifts into Joaquins space as well, then leans in to press a soft kiss against his lips.
no subject
He's pretty certain his brain completely short circuits because he wants this but he'd almost given up hope of having it. At least, he had until Bucky showed up at his door and then that hope had sparked back to life, even if he wanted to pretend it hadn't.
When the kiss breaks, Joaquin presses his forehead against Bucky's, brushing their noses together. His fingers are tangled gently in the hair at the back of Bucky's neck, blunt nails scratching gently at his scalp. He opens his mouth to say something but the words fail, a soft laugh taking their place before he leans in to kiss him again.
no subject
When Joaquin's hands connect against his body, holding on to him, those nerves start to ebb away. This is okay. It's okay now, and he wants it.
Joaquin is so sweet about it too, keeping that contact even after the kiss breaks. This part is frightening as well. What does he say, what doesn't he say? What is Joaquin about to say? But it hardly matters because a moment later Joaquin is kissing him again, and Bucky's right hand moves to his hip as well, kissing him a little deeper this time. A little more confident instead of fully laced with nerves.
no subject
He's content to stand here and make out in the kitchen but there are also far better places to do that too so, when he pulls away to breathe, hands still resting against Bucky's body because he doesn't wanna go too far, he indicates with his head towards the hallway. "Am I being too forward if I invite you to my room?"
