"People ask, How did you get in there? What they really want to know is if they are likely to end up in there as well. I can't answer the real question. All I can tell them is, It's easy."
Well, you've really done it now. You're in a mental institution. Maybe it's a modern facility with a therapy garden, compassionate staff members, and a warm environment meant to help nurse people back to health, or maybe it's a glorified dungeon where the government shoves people they don't want to deal with and patients are abused by staff. Regardless of what it is, you're there, and it doesn't look like they're planning on letting you out any time soon.

Maybe you're actually not supposed to be there and you're trying to arrange for your release. Maybe you actually are meant to be there and you're struggling with your illness. Maybe you're not a patient at all and you're just there to visit or earn your paycheck. It's up to you.

[ Doctor Tam is not supposed to be here either. But he is. One might wonder why a surgeon is making rounds at a mental hospital but as long as the staff doesn't ask too many questions, everything seems to be going exactly like it's supposed to.

There are some doodles on the notepad that he carries with him. A friendly blue sweater tucked over his crisply ironed white buttondown. He fits in, he talks the language.

He sits in a chair in John's room, one knee on top of the other, smiling just a little. ]

_{[Scenario idea: Dick dealt with the death of his parents by retreating into delusions about being adopted by a billionaire and becoming a costumed crime fighter. Varies between being completely lost in his fantasies, day-dream like, and being lucid enough to have conversations and interact with people - but still firm in his own created reality.

But open to other ideas!]}

[Depression, PTSD, suicidal ideation, god complex, hallucinations. He thinks he's a messiah named The Demiurge, who is destined to rewrite the laws of magic throughout the multiverse and backwards and forwards through time. He thinks that he will one day create life itself and universes. Claims he has numerous spells to see into alternate timelines and see how things may or may not turn out depending upon choices made.

Nearly killed former classmate during an altercation and has threatened to kill others when cornered.

Additionally, he saws he's the son of a witch and an android, and has implied his soul came from a demon named Mephisto. Severe delusions, suffers from potentially violent tendencies.

Most days, he refuses to speak and spends most of his time staring out windows or finding secluded places to be alone. Unresponsive at times. He has shown an inclination to escape in an attempt to find family or friends who will vouch for his delusions.

He also suffers from severe guilt and concern that he may one day lose control of his abilities. Seems to think he potentially dreamed his significant other into life.]

When Billy comes back from whatever daydream he was involved in, he's sitting by a window in the common area. The window is grimy and covered with bars, but in theory the sun is shining out there, somewhere. Across from him at the rickety table lounges a long-limbed figure; face a stark white, jaw just a little too long and smile a little too wide. Orange is not his color.

In his hands are a battered deck of cards, which he shuffles, again and again and again. He's watching with curiosity, but perks up when some life comes into Billy's eyes.

"Afternoon there, kiddo! Interested in a game?"

[Self-described as a real piece of work, and he'd be right. Paranoid delusions, psychotic breaks, past childhood abuse, severe trauma, and various addictions. Suffers from guilt and paranoia. Seems to think demons and magic are both tangible things, even swearing to past dealings with both.

He'll do what he can for a smoke and a drink, often bribing staff and fellow patients alike with anything he's capable of offering.

Multiple attempted escapes and insistence he doesn't belong.

It would be wise to exercise caution when dealing with him.]

[John might well belong in an institution, but in this instance perhaps its the Brotherhood of Evil that conspired to get him committed?

If there was one thing Rocket knew, it was that there was always a way out of a place like this, and maybe you needed a multi-part plan like some kind of bank heist, and maybe you just needed light fingers and a trusting candystriper.

She knew there had been other times, after the fire, after the stabbing, but those had both been justified as far as she was concerned, and she honestly had no idea that she was actually haunting the building that had once been Lennox House and then a series of other hospitals, asylums and recovery centers, up to the current one.

[ooc: definitely open to other situations as well, I just love the thought of Rocket helping people escape and never actually getting out herself because she doesn't realize she can't.]

[ A historical AU in which she's framed for an assault or murder (or not framed and it was self-defense) and committed for paranoia, hysteria, violent episodic rage, generally being a difficult woman. Kept sedated if she still has powers. Can also be post-asylum where she's recently escaped (with or without assistance) and holing up with someone while starting to recover. ]

[I love that scenario, maybe Gemini from DC Comics could be a good fit? As a shapeshifter she might have framed Jessica for murder and then been double crossed by her employers and committed to the same institution. She and Jess have escaped and are now holed up together somewhere and Gemini is trying to work up to confess to Jess her guilt.]

[ Suffers from paranoid schizophrenia after various traumatic childhood experiences, including living in a town where a serial killer made several children disappear over the course of one summer. Has hallucinations of a "killer clown", red balloons, circus music, etc. I'm good with playing him at any age, from kid to young adult to 30-ish.

There's also the option of something even darker regarding his closeted sexuality - lmk if you're into that idea & we can discuss! ]

Home again, home again, jiggity jig. Or at least Arkham again; same 6x6 cell, same green-tiled walls that were meant to be soothing fifty years ago. Same drawn-faced nurses, same sad company.

The Joker, thrown into Arkham Asylum for the upteen-miliionth time, is currently loitering in the common area during his schedule-mandated hour of 'free time.' Humming to himself, he's halfway through a game that looks like solitaire; though if anyone is paying attention, it looks like he isn't playing by the rules.

[Diagnosed with a chronic Icarus Complex, Tony was admitted after burning down his workspace during a 72 hour bout of non-stop work. CCTV footage shows him barely sleeping (napping on the floor or bench a couple of times), drinking a lot of coffee and coke, and only stopping for pizza once. When the fire started he made no effort to get out and had to be dragged out by Rhodey.

Upon extraction, he became agitated, raving first about the failure of what he had been building, then desperate to get back in and start again, despite the flames. He was sectioned for his own safety.]

"I've been to one of your shows!" Peter exclaims, the puzzle he was currently working on completely forgotten as he twists the one piece he is pinching between his fingers. His whole attention is on the scruffy man on the table by his own.

He knew he was familiar!

"When I was a little kid. I used my powers for the first time there!"

[ Most of Bruce's days are spent alone; it's a necessary measure to control his own fear. Despite what all the doctors and nurses say, he knows he's dangerous. Even when he's forced to "socialize" with the general population, he keeps to himself, typically occupying a chair in the corner or staring out the window and refusing to speak.

It's yet another one of those days when they bring Tony in. Bruce thinks he looks familiar, but it doesn't matter; he has no plans to speak to him. There's something about his face, though, something in his eyes that makes it difficult not to stare.

The orderlies accompany him to the table next to Bruce's, perhaps hoping it will force him to open up to the newcomer. Bruce attempts to focus on the crossword he's doing, but once they're alone it becomes difficult to focus. When he glances over again their eyes meet, and despite his best attempts he can't bring himself to look away.

Who is this man? Why is he here? ]

[ooc: there's a few possiblities. One of these is that he fell (either canonically off the hospital roof or historically off a cliff and has a fairly bad case retrograde amnesia.

The other option is some criminal had their fun with him and now talking is just not something he does much of. If a historical it could be any asylum of the day, if modern he could be in a country where he doesn't really know or remember the language.

That or you could pick your poison.]
