SICK DAY MEME

There's not denying it, you're feeling crap. School, work, a date, tea with nana, mowing the lawns, doing your laundry, that important meeting... you can't make it. You want to stay in bed and maybe you just need a little TLC in the process. What is YOUR reason for that ever-fateful call in sick that every boss just loves to hate? RULES: - Leave a comment with your character's name, fandom, and any preferences you have. - When replying, RNG for a number between 1 and 16. - The number corresponds to the scenario that you will play out in any way you feel the urge. - The poster is the sick person, the tagger is the one taking care of them/keeping them company. - Go from there! |
THE LIST:
1// COLD
It's just a boring old sinus infection and you probably could go in, but you're not because bed is just too nice.
2// FLU
You feel like you're dying and everything aches, but it's not quite serious enough to arrange your own funeral yet.
3// MAN FLU
Doesn't anyone understand how sick and miserable you are?! You can't function! The world is ending! You need cuddles, and hugs, and you can't do ANYTHING by yourself!
4// STOMACH BUG
Uh oh, this is going to get messy...
5// FOOD POISONING
But that meal was sooooooo good. The best you ever had! Why is it betraying you so badly?! Never eating ever again.
6// CONCUSSION
You've been hit in the head and now it feels like it's going to explode. Being horizontal is the best option, and not even in a good way.
7// MONO
Everything hurts, you feel sick, you don't want to move, you don't want to eat, but you're in it for the long haul. Company and maybe some cuddles with chicken soup might be nice.
8// CHICKEN POX OR MEASLES
SPOTS! Spots everywhere! Yes, even there! You look hideous and it itches so damn much. Don't scratch, don't scratch... oh screw it!
9// LARYNGITIS
Your throat hurts so bad and now you can't talk. How are you going to communicate, maybe you need a little bell? Is it bad form to text message someone sitting right in front of you? Who cares, you want chicken soup.
10// HANGOVER
It's still sick, right?
11// BACK PAIN
You don't know what you have done, but you woke up barely able to move. You probably shouldn't have done what you did last night... and you should probably rest it.
12// INCAPACITATING INJURY
You got hurt, you can move much, and you're stuck in bed. Is it a broken bone? Torn groin muscle? Cracked ribs? Whatever it is, the world clearly hates you.
13// POST ROUTINE SURGERY
It was a simple procedure and now you're back home. The only catch is, you can't be alone for 48 hours in case of complications, with the added bonus of it hurts like a bitch.
14// POST MAJOR SURGERY
You're stuck in hospital for a few days and have a gaping surgial wound. There aren't even any hot nurses. Now what?
15// LONG TERM ILLNESS
You've just been diagnosed with a longer-term illness (of your choice). You're feeling poorly and don't want to be alone.
16// ANYTHING GOES
Something not listed here, have a wildcard of your choice! Anything that might lead to a timely sick day.

hope prose is all right!
This time, however, the namesake was far, far above the ground. Link had never known such a place existed, but there was no way of knowing without being sent so high. As a spirit Link didn't mind the thinner air, but their namesake must have been affected, since Link could follow the wheezing. Fate to the contrary, if their namesake was in dire trouble Link couldn't stand by and watch someone die. Not like this, not alone, not where no one would ever realize the loss.
Link shed their stalfos form, not needing to teach combat, instead taking on a form from their younger years. Although Link lost their eye later in life, still they kept the right one closed. Habits died hard, even after so many years.
all good with me o/
Still he pressed on, stubborn and determined, unwilling to let Midna down in their search for the shattered mirror pieces that she so desperately needed.
Determination was only going to bring a weakening body so far, and where he would have normally been able to take hits and deliver them back just as strong he was failing. Miserably. The helmasaurses were the worst of it, too fast to dodge in his current state, too difficult to expose the weakness of.
One hit, two hits, or had it been three? He lost count, truthfully, as he hobbled along to the next area with an arm across his chest and his lungs heaving, cause each bruise to ache even more than usual. Where was he even going at this point? Somewhere other than the room where everything wanted to add to his likely broken ribs, he hoped.

"Stop."
While talking was difficult, even as a spirit, Link never found it difficult to be verbal with their namesake. Perhaps the similarities put Link at ease enough to loosen their tongue.
"You're hurt. Can't fight."
no subject
But the person before him urging him to quite while he was ahead had a familiar voice, one he heard in a realm that was neither Hyrule nor Twilight that would teach him of things that were buried deep within his mind.
He squinted, wobbled, closed an eye against the nagging coming from his shadow (thanks, Midna, he probably knows you've been yelling that at Link for hours now), eventually shaking his head in weak defiance.
"I can't... not yet..."
no subject
"A break? You'll hurt yourself."
Link wondered if their namesake had that same antsy feeling, that if he slowed down he'd stop and fall behind and fail. They wished they could speak more, speak better, without having to practice it first. Right now they needed to help this Link so he could rest, he looked pale and clammy.

The nearby door led to a calmer area, noisy from wind and the clucking noises of the benevolent bird creatures but otherwise temporarily safe from the rest of the dangers around the crumbling city.
A protest hung on the edge of his tongue, almost voiced, but exhaustion actually won out in those few moments of stillness. He nodded and stumbled towards the door, luckily able to coax it open without much of a struggle.

"Where's it hurt?"
First things first, Link needed to know what was wrong. If it was really serious, like internal bleeding, then Link would have to gather all their energy to move this one.
Sorry for the delay, I had to crash early for a long day
A question was asked, though the silence that followed it was liable to be a bit worrisome. He comprehended it and yet he couldn't seem to form the words to reply.
"... everything."
Helpful, farm boy. Helpful.
no worries!
Carefully, Link started with his head, checking their namesake's eyes for a concussion and the reds for the paleness of blood loss or the fiery hue of infection. Then the neck, prodding at the bones before putting a hand on his chest to check the breathing.

Thankfully, though, the worst of it was in his stomach and chest. Even with the tumbles he had taken he was little more than bruised and sore up there. Breathing was heavy and labored, but also even and not showing any signs of gasping or bubbling from punctures. There may have been a break or a crack in his ribs somewhere, though he lucked out by it not being nearly as severe as it could have been.
Head throbbing, still partially convinced that this was some sort of fever dream, Link closed his eyes and let the impromptu examination happen without complaint.

Link moved down the torso to press against the different organs: stomach, guts, liver, kidneys. No inflamed tenderness, the only heat seemed to be from their namesake's head, just a fever.
Without disrobing Link couldn't tell where all the bruises were, but a potion or rest would take care of that. Since the organs seemed okay, they checked his limbs next, flexing his hands and feet to make sure there were no broken bones or sprains. He did walk under his own power, at least.
no subject
He wasn't dreaming, was he? This was really happening. And that voice... he knew he had heard it before.
That left a lot of questions buzzing around his aching head.
"... how did you find me?"
no subject
Rather than answer verbally, Link took on their ghostly stalfos form, looking down at him with the one red eye. They shifted back and offered a smile. As a spirit, physical distances meant less, and their intent could transport them just as a magic song could. Where that Link went, this Link could follow, a chain of destiny.

The reveal of the other form earned a wide eyed stare, full of recognition and awe. It made a disturbing amount of sense and somehow none at all. He thought the Shade was trapped in that other realm entirely, and yet here he was, solid, real and helping him from ending his adventure far too early.
There wasn't much he could say to that, outside of an awkward, quiet "Hi..."
no subject
"Hi!" Link couldn't help but chuckle over their namesake's surprise. "Could teach you another skill. When better."
In mortal form, Link is leaner, sharper than their namesake: between the angular features and beaklike nose, they look more like a hawk than a wolf. Their eyes are not like a wild beast's, but like the fae that raised them.
no subject
"Looking forward to it," he answered, breaking in to a coughing fit following it. He attempted to flop over on to his back, only to remember that the heavy shield he carried was still there. A grunt of annoyance and he forced himself to sit up, fumbling with his buckles to try and shed some of the weight that was pressing against his aching body.

"Two of em: Aim For The Eyes and Punch The Genitals."
Hidden techniques were essential to various opponents, but sometimes tall foes meant easy to reach weak points. Orifices also made for good targets, especially for the tough bastards. In the meantime Link rummaged for their namesake's wallet, digging out several rupees.
no subject
He wanted to laugh at that, but he knew it would just send him coughing and reeling back in to pain. He gave a tired but genuine grin instead, quietly chuckling instead.
"Good old fashioned beatdown?"
no subject
"It works! Killed a gohma when I was ten, stuck a knife in her eye until dead."
How much were red potions nowadays? Couldn't be more than fifty, right? Link will give back the change. Grabbing a spare bottle, Link had to go to the Oocca shop.
"Be back."
