HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?
 WHAT IF THEY HAD LIVED? MEME We're not going to have a ton of prompts today, folks. However, we are going to have this. Say your character or someone close to your character dies in canon. Perhaps they die young, perhaps they're a big damn hero, perhaps they're a slithery villain that SHOULD be dead. What would happen if they didn't? How would the world change? This is your place to explore that kind of AU! Did the death situation never happen? Did they perhaps escape by the skin of their teeth? Did something (or someone) save them? How does the bright and shining (or dark and ominous) future pan out for them? |

A quick step away from the front lines has Yuuki venturing through old dungeons, feeling almost nostalgic for the time when she, too, pushed her way through these halls. It was the first time trap rooms became an issue, she remembers, and on a more sorrowful note – it was a time rife with losses because of it. Despite her young age, so many had died before her eyes, and the grim reality is that there will be many more before they manage to escape this world.
It’s while she’s wrapped up in such thoughts that the familiar grinding sound of a door shutting reaches her ears, her eyes going wide as her body moves to immediately react, making a dash for the sound. She can hear the voices ahead, see the door on its way shut, and things seem to shift to slow motion as she drops into a roll to slip inside, the door narrowly missing the tips of her hair.
She springs back to her feet in an instant, already drawing her sword even as monsters begin to filter in.
Without realizing, she’s screaming, sword out as she tears through the monsters in a whirlwind of movement.]
HaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

This is it, isn't it? This is where she dies, right?
She can hear her friends screaming. Can't see whether they're alive or not. Kirito is shouting out names. And Sachi... Sachi is being surrounded by enemies.
If... Kirito can only get the present she's left for him, that will be enough. She's scared of dying, doesn't want to, but... It's the only thing a weak girl like her can hold onto in her final moments.
But then she's yelping, jerking back as a spinning whirl of purple and silver steel cuts through the enemies around her like they're nothing.]
You're-!
[Sachi doesn't know who this is. But she does know that they're strong like Kirito.
And it looks like they're saving her life.]

[She throws out an arm defensively for all of a second before she launches herself back into the fray. They’re close to a corner, and while that would normally be a death trap of its own, here it’s better if they have that at their backs; it makes it easier to fight without having to worry about getting surrounded.
Not that it almost seems to matter, with how quickly and fluidly she dashes from one attack to the next, one enemy not even touching the ground before another joins it on its descent. However, no matter how quick and wild her attacks are, always, always she keeps to a semi-circle around Sachi, well-aware her blade is one of the sole guards keeping this girl alive.
So many had already died before her eyes. But even so, she’s determined to cut that number down just as she cuts these foes with her blade.
In the end, three remain. Yuuki leans on her sword, huffing for breath from the sheer adrenaline rush of the moment. She’s alive… And a quick glance over her shoulder tells her the girl is, too.
Only two others had survived... but that's still two more than none.]
Hey! Are you okay?
[Her tone is utterly casual, even childish in how informal it is, but the concern is real.]

I... would've been done for if you hadn't shown up when you did. You saved my life. [The girl looks and sounds young, but she's incredible. Just as amazing as Kirito, and it's a miracle she showed up when she did.] But... Who are you? How did you end up here?

Right. Okay. When she lifts her head again, it's with a smile, even if it's strained against both her weariness and the knowledge that once again, not everyone could survive.]
I'm glad...
[She heaves herself off of her sword, not quite sheathing it yet, but keeping its tip pointed at the ground.]
Me? I'm Yuuki! I just... felt like walking around this dungeon again, actually! [It's weird, and she knows it, and it's accompanied by an awkward laugh and an embarrassed head scratch.]

We should get out of here as soon as possible. The monsters here are small fry, so fighting them is no problem, but we shouldn't stay any longer.
