I don't want to be in love, I don't want to be in love

EVER BEEN IN LOVE?

Be for real. Be so for real right now. We won't judge.

how to play
I. Answer the question IC-ly in your top level.
II. Has your character ever been in love before? Yes, no, maybe so? Give us all the details.
III. Repliers will shake their heads in simultaneous pity and judgment discuss one of life's fundamental experiences with the original responder!

I felt a tingle once.

[ Maybe keep walking, curious stranger. Surely nothing good could come from inquiring after such a response issued in her usual monotone while wearing such an expression. ]
nagano: (like the love dreams i used to live)

...Sure it wasn't just constipation?

[ Incredible. ]

[ This look. That's it. That's all you get, Nagano. ]

Like somebody walked over your grave, right?

I haven't had that experience. Is it really a tingle?
tetrahedonist: (I burned whole cities to the ground)

If I had skin, I'd describe it as crawling. For the grave thing.

Or like you're in imminent danger! You're familiar with that one, right?

Intimately.

[ She almost sighs, dis... appointed? Disappointed. ]

It wasn't that.
tetrahedonist: (I was inclined to make a mistake)

It's a good sign that you can recognize your emotions, anyway. Don't take this the wrong way, but I'm getting an inkling that you hang out with a bad crowd.

If by "hang out with" you mean "subdue," you are correct. I simply enjoy my work.

[ Bill's canny little eye half closes in satisfaction. He's basing it solely off her warrant skills, not knowing anything about her actual job just yet. ] I meant your coworkers.

They're okay. It helps to be owed a favor.

[ Or multiple compound favors, but that's her business. Funny how they fall into her hands sometimes, though. Just walking to the locker room can be lucrative. ]

I'll say. If you can't have friends, favors are just as good.

So what do you get up to?

10,000 time units later...

Work.

[ ... ]

I'm an officer in the Japan Bureau of Paranormal Defense and Affairs. I put down monsters.
tetrahedonist: (It's like they dropped you from the sky)

It's all gravy really!

[personal profile] tetrahedonist 2025-06-03 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what they say about all work and no play.

You 'put down' monsters, huh. For a nice little nap? C'mon, own it.

I believe that saying only applies to those who don't enjoy their work.

[ Oh, sir. Do not try this one, sir. What she says next, she says matter of factly: ]

I subjugate, slay, slaughter, kill, and effectively end the life and possibility of unlife of a particular type of monster called youma, who would take my people's lives, hearts, and souls otherwise.

[ And there it is, a smile, slight and sharp enough to cut a hair into many pieces. ]

I'm very good at what I do.

As long as we're having fun about it, I can't say anything!

[ Eyebrow waggle, without an eyebrow. ] That's more like it, just gotta gently cut off that tailend justification at the end there and nobody would ever know you felt even a little bad about it!

I'm pretty good at what I do, too.

[ That waggle without an eyebrow? She perceives it and pauses, shelving the question of how. ]

And that is?
tetrahedonist: (I know it's not your fault)

[personal profile] tetrahedonist 2025-06-04 09:07 am (UTC)(link)
Helping monsters realize that's what they are. Especially if they're keeping company that doesn't want that for them.

I'm taking a few wild guesses here!

[personal profile] kairosive 2025-06-04 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Hm. What or who do you consider a monster?
tetrahedonist: (How can you tell it's light)

[personal profile] tetrahedonist 2025-06-05 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
I like your willingness to define terms so everybody involved has a similar basis of reference! It's nice. And uncommon.

Anyway I guess it depends, but I'll try to give you a better answer than that.

You've got "monster, A", the freakish, aberrant kind who's born weird and everybody knows it. They couldn't help what they are, even if they wanted to. They'll be alone forever, even in a crowded room. They might hurt people without meaning to, or they might be in situations where they need to hurt people.

Then you've got "monster, B", the kind people talk about when they put morals to actions. This is beings that hurt people when they don't need to, or like doing it.

Then you've got "monster, C", both of the above. Maybe started out A and ended up B, maybe mostly A and a little B. Maybe mostly B and a little A, but at that point A matters less and less, only the starting point changes.

The problem is most of these everyday specks of sentience think A doesn't deserve to exist, B and A are identical, and C doesn't exist either.

Everybody's a B Movie Monster to them.
