Night market

Welcome to...

The Night Market

Even as the sky gets dark, there's still a lot of lights and life all over this busy street full of people. Vendors and customers from all over come to share and appreciate their creations, taking in this lively atmosphere. Eat, drink, be merry - but watch out for pickpockets and price gouging.

Rules:

1. Comment with your characters. Feel free to specify if they're a vendor/merchant, performer, or someone just here to enjoy the market.
2. Hang out, meet new people, laugh at the bootleg toys, and stuff your faces with good food and drinks.

At the moment, I am currently out of the herb itself.

[A small, professional nod from one very not human enigma to another.]

I have a small bottle of snakeroot extract, though if you are looking for other expectorants, I have a supply of thyme, peppermint, ginger and licorice root.

I'll take the bottle. [ A nod in return, quick and decisive. ] The others are easy enough to find, but thank you. I'm really only after items that are somewhat harder to find. Anything rare or very unusual.

Also, this incense--do you have sticks only or cones as well?

[ She's something of an incense aficionado, though she isn't weird about it like some people he's met in the past. ]

Most of my incense is in cone form. The sticks are just what most are familiar with these days.

[He turns and there is a faint rustle as he slides a drawer of his medicine pack open. A few clinks and clanks later, he procures a bottle of snakeroot extract and a black lacquer box, the inside of it carefully divided and housing cones of incense.]

The snakeroot extract, and some samples of my other work. Though if you are looking for rarer ingredients...

[His lips curl into a faint, brief smile.]

...Well. I can certainly help.

I use incense for aromatherapy in my medical practice, so I like to keep an assortment on hand.

[ So she begins to delicately inhale the various aromas, picking out ones she likes. Her brow arches at the medicine seller's secretive grin, but doesn't find him unsettling compared to some of the people she's dealt with in her line of work.

Meeting his eyes, Lingsha returns the smile and nods. ]

Oh? What does that help entail? And how much does it cost?

It, of course, depends on the ingredient in question.

[But he has means to get places he really has no business being and he has no qualms about taking full advantage of this privilege to help a fellow practitioner of medicine.

...Or if it would just be, you know, really fucking funny.]

Well, now I'm curious. I can certainly make it worth your while, either with cash or even, perhaps, an exchange. I have an extensive collection medicinal compounds and tools, many of which I've formulated myself.

[ She lowers her voice conspiratorially. ]

Even the blood of a red dragon purported to grant immortality, but that one is by far the most precious elixir I possess.

I would never presume to trade for something so exquisite.

[He's pretty ageless as is.]

Though if you seek items that may no longer exist...? Well -

Time is

no obstacle.

[personal profile] alchemycommission 2025-05-08 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
Nor would I trade it lightly.

[ Because she's the red dragon. It's her blood. She's hundreds of years old, though not actually immortal by any means. ]

No obstacle? Interesting. I'd like to know how you manage that but I assume it's a trade secret. I really don't have anything particular in mind. Although...

[ She hums and taps her chin. ]

The preceptors would hate me for meddling, but I don't suppose you've come across any drugs that can reverse infertility?
meds4sale: (Sword chats)

[personal profile] meds4sale 2025-05-11 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Infertility is a symptom; it's underlying causes are multifarious indeed, but I know of treatments for some of them.

Not all.

...But some.

[As with all matters pertaining to his work, he needs to first ascertain the truths of things. He can't just whip up a miracle out of thin air.]

Rest assured, I won't be disappointed if this case is beyond your ability to cure. Even some of our greatest healers haven't managed to cure it.

[ In other words, it really would be a miracle if he had something in his box that could cure this particular ailment. ]

It doesn't only pertain to me, you see, but to my entire species. The Vidyadhara gave up our ability to reproduce thousands of years ago in favor of an endless cycle of rebirth, but in the end all that means is that our numbers are doomed to dwindle until we're nothing more than a memory in the cosmos. There have been a few of us who have sought ought a means to revert us to a state where we're able to reproduce naturally, but their efforts haven't born any fruit, as it were.

[ It's a huge ask, and she knows that. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask, does it? The worst outcome is that he doesn't know. ]

I suppose what I'm most interested in is any insight you might have.
meds4sale: (What a nice story)

[personal profile] meds4sale 2025-05-11 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[There is a momentary spark of... something in the Medicine Seller's eyes. Interest? Curiosity...? Either way, she has lain before him an intriguing mystery.]

A trade.

[And one that didn't seem entirely thought through. How could any be re-born if they couldn't be born to begin with...?]

Was this an actual bargain, or do you mean it in a more metaphorical sense...?

If you mean trading the natural cycles of reproduction for our hatching rebirths, it was so long ago now that there are no records left detailing the exact means of the transition. That's part of the problem: how does one undo such a change when we no longer know how it was initiated? Beyond that, the preceptors would sooner kill any who try to restore the cycle than lose their power. They are our governing body, you see--the ones who raise and teach the hatchlings.

[ She's very certain that they had a hand in the downfall of the last elder who tried to change the status quo. ]

They might be content to let our species fade into obscurity, but not all of us are.
