The Night Market

Even as the sky gets dark, there's still a lot of lights and life all over this busy street full of people. Vendors and customers from all over come to share and appreciate their creations, taking in this lively atmosphere. Eat, drink, be merry - but watch out for pickpockets and price gouging.

1. Comment with your characters. Feel free to specify if they're a vendor/merchant, performer, or someone just here to enjoy the market.
2. Hang out, meet new people, laugh at the bootleg toys, and stuff your faces with good food and drinks.

[What are the odds of hero incognito having an encounter with king incognito? These are the sort of useless thoughts that spring to mind when caught in a situation solely out of lucky (or unlucky) happenstance.

Theseus had not set out intending to tarry long. While he thought highly of his stealthiness, he thought even more highly of his reputation and figured his fame would get him recognized inevitably. So of course misfortune itself had to move in to obstruct his way and impede him.

Theseus barrels down the walkways with the set determination of a hound, paying no need that he's supposed to be hiding that he has any authority to wield. ]

[Where does a sidhe go to get a little taste of home without having to go all the way back to Underhill? Why, the Night Market, of course. There are all sorts of things less than (or more than, depending on perspective) human roaming around to bump shoulders with. Perhaps he's glancing at something edible not found in a Starbucks or supermarket. Or maybe a scent from home he's been craving. Anything could catch his eye, and he's less likely to wear his glamour when he's among non-humans. His hair and eyes will take on a slightly metallic gleam to them; copper and bronze and gold tones making him seem to glimmer.]

[OOC: She has her own booth, selling questionable ahh potions and charms. But those in the know understand that in order to get the real stuff, you talk to her after the Market closes.]

[Bare bones about her: sarcastic seer with a knack for finding trouble, or having trouble find her. More in-depth information about her is here. Can easily AU her into just about anywhere. Either a mysterious vendor selling trinkets and telling fortunes (for a price), or there just to enjoy the night market. Or maybe she was drawn there for some reason.]

[OOC: Knows the Market like the back of her hand. If you get on her good side, Eda will find you some good food and a deal on stuff. If she doesn't like you, prepare to be scammed or get a nasty stomach bug.]

[she's got her keytar in hand and its case laid out in front of her, busking the night away. she's usually with her band but tonight's a solo act, a discography of new wave pop & rock.

she pauses for a drink break here and there, and when things slow down or as the crowd thins out she'll pack up and enjoy the night market for herself.]

[he hasn't seen anything like this where he's from-- there certainly isn't this much joy and fun that isn't connected to certain...habits. but he's got one grubby hand around a stick of beef? or chicken? he isn't sure, and the other he's got a beer. there's a cacophony of music around, but one unique sound catches his attention-- a young woman with what looks like-- maybe some kind of ancient instrument. he stands before her for a moment, drops some bills in her case, then says:]

Don't tell me someone's requested Wonderwall already.

[ancient tech? excuse you, this is a really cool and modern instrument where she’s from.

he’s caught her at the tail end of her song, fingers lingering on a chord. she’s glad for the cash, and can humour requests, but—]

Y’know, nobody’s ever asked me to play that. [said sarcastically, smirking as she rolls her eyes.] But honestly? I’ve never heard of that song ‘til I started busking here.

[she’s from the futuristic world of the early 80s, man. britpop isn’t for another 10 years.]

Seriously? That's insane...it's still so stupid popular at parties I guess, probably just DJ'd by drunk frat boys. [he chuckles, grinning] Maybe not knowing it has saved youuuuu....

[he's from what, the 2010s? but the vague-future-- everything good has already happened]

Not where I'm from. [she might not know the song herself, but her ear is good enough to pick up that this guy is making some sort of reference to it.

her smirk lingers, and throughout this she continues to riff on her keytar, trying to figure out what else to play since she can't oblige his request, even if it's obviously some sort of inside joke. for whatever reason.] I usually stick to originals, but maybe...this? [she starts up with an intro] A little something from the pre-War days.

[he watches her play, observes the way the placements of her hands go-- man, what an interesting instrument. at the first few notes of the song, his face lights up--]

I know that one! Listened to a decent amount of the Doors when I was a brat. You said pre-War? I guess you mean 'Nam?
