[ The true dream of Disneyland Paris wasn't experiencing it, but experiencing it without interruptions. All the portals to the future Mark was joking about, perhaps as an overcorrection for how messed up that all made him feel, never showed up. Even his and Eve's ability to enjoy the Ratatouille ride and experience the world from Remy's miniature perspective was unhindered by anything save for the ride having to stop at one point... leaving the two of them to stare into the dead eyes of an Emile animatronic looking right back at them, still and lifeless till the ride could resume operation.

Perhaps some things are scarier than what the two have to deal with regularly, what's become their normal. And despite everything else they experience throughout their day in the park, the memory of Emile's thousand-yard stare follows Mark wherever he goes. A rat who's seen too much. Experienced too much. And now, since Mark's obviously projecting, he catches himself doing so and he facepalms.

Mid-conversation, that is, in their hotel room. ]

I was thinking about Emile again.

[ Something about a visit to the Astral Plane is so engaging mentally, it's almost easy to forget what happens physically. How taxing it can be, for example, to withstand the experience Betsy has curated for Jason in their shared mindscape. An evening's worth of time spent in each other's minds, unhindered by the borders of physical reality and space, leaves Jason returning to the waking world in a cold sweat. Less like the way one escapes from a nightmare, more like the way one is dragged away a dream too blissful, too sweet, to let go of.

But it's not like it would ever be the last reverie between them, not when the real and physical Betsy was a dream in her own right-- at least in Jason's opinion. He's pretty sure she's been the nightmare of many others: a quality that only draws him in further with no means of escape. There's nothing for him to flee from, anyway, but to flee towards. Like the feeling of Betsy's arms when they embrace under the showerhead. It's on the mist setting, for now, softly peppering Jason's skin with sensations so indicative of the real. The tangible. Just as the very real and very tangible Betsy soon finds her forehead pressed against Jason's, him tilting his head to do so.

His expression isn't as severe as usual, contemplative instead. Almost wistful. ]
