[ If she was worried about a crowd, she had some time yet before one arrived. While being this early might be unusual for Rin, it was pretty typical for Lessing, who took punctuality to a different extreme. Arriving earlier meant he usually had some quiet peace to himself where he could work on various things, whether it was school work, or using some of the club spaces typically used by clubs that met in the afternoon. He hadn't really been expecting to find anyone else in the classroom when he'd walked in this morning, and yet...

And yet here Tohsaka was, acting out of sorts, and apparently looking for something important enough that she decided to come in this early to find it. ]

You've traced back all your steps from the last time you saw it?

[ He's assuming yes, but sometimes just being asked questions can make someone remember a detail they'd previously forgotten. He hasn't realized that his help on this particular issue is probably deeply unwanted. ]

[ When has luck ever been on Rin’s side? It’s certainly not going to be today, because while she silently wills him away, Lessing walks over to her without a second thought. The scent that glanced past him earlier getting strong enough for him to suddenly realize that she’s the source of it. It’s still not overly strong, faint enough that he could almost believe it came off of someone else and was transferred onto her.

Rin is an Alpha as well, isn’t she? That was the general assumption about her amongst their classmates, though Lessing’s beta-seeming behavior long ago made him learn not to judge people based on these sort of stereotypes.

Still, it would make some sense if maybe Rin had an omega in her family, or a relationship that she was keeping quiet about……

It wasn’t really his business to pry into, and it’s not why he had come over here in the first place. ]

[ The fast walk does confuse him a little, but if rude behavior was really going to put Lessing off, then he'd really struggle being raised by the family he was, where his own grandfather was the very definition of rudeness, and he certainly wouldn't have made friends with someone who had a tongue sharper than his common sense.

The biggest point of confusion that he finds, however, is the scent that passes by him briefly as she storms out in front of him, maybe not the sort of scent most people would find particularly alluring, but strangely appealing to a weirdo like Lessing whose preferences in life ran rather peculiar.

His brow furrows, the wheels in his head already turning as he follows her slowly, the scent faint but present as he walks down the hall and outside to the bench she's scrounging around right now. ]

Hey, the thing you're looking for...

[ It seems like he's finally put two and two together on this one. ]

[ There's a certain degree of suggestiveness in that position alone, but given Rin's immediate hostility towards him trailing off his question, he can't imagine she means it intentionally. So while Lessing doesn't look away from her, he forces himself into more a more appropriate line of thinking despite his mind wanting to wander.

The aroma wafting off of her really gives it all away now, and he's shocked he didn't fully recognize it before, but he shifts to breathing out of his mouth, trying to maintain polite conversation as he ignores instincts. ]

You seemed upset about something, so I wanted to help alleviate that.

[ It's said so matter of fact. Whether she believes him or not is her own choice, but generally speaking Lessing is happy to lend a hand where it seems it's needed. ]

And it seems like you do need the help right now...

[ His gaze peels away from her at last, back to scanning the ground for the sign of something accidentally littered on it. ]
