Ah, reincarnation! The possibilities are as endless as the cycle of lives your characters have led. Perhaps they knew one another in a life before what you now call canon. Perhaps canon is a past life for one they're leading now. Perhaps they've lived many, many times, and are now on yet another iteration... in space.

The choice is yours! But if choosing is hard, here's some prompt ideas:

Relationship:

Family: Siblings, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, children... The bond of blood remains strong, from life to life.
Friends: The most chosen of families. Perhaps you swore once you'd be best friends for ever-- how true it is!
Enemies: You have been rivals for longer than perhaps even you know. Maybe someday there will be an end to this feud... or not.
Lovers: Soulmates-- or at least, romantic partners. Maybe one life was enough, or maybe you'll keep loving them 'til the end of time.
It's Complicated: Friends to lovers to enemies to lovers to....... Well. You've lived many lives. People change, and relationships do too.
Other: A vindictive deity making you live and live again? A helpful spirit supporting you through incarnations? Something else entirely?

Situation:

Found: You've found one another yet again, in another life. How easily does it go?
Memory: One of you remembers... But the other doesn't. Or neither of you remember, but feel the pull. Or there's a terrible memory, rising up and making you lose all sense of when you are.
Coping: It's not easy, having another life (or lives) rattle around in your brain. How do you deal?
Repeat: Something from your past life is happening again. Can you make it go differently this time? Do you want to?
Denial: No, no, no. Past lives are just something for fantasies and fairytales. So why is this person so insistent they aren't?
Marked: For all your soulmate tattoo/scars/words AU needs. There's a mark connecting you two-- has it remained the same across lives? Have you?
Outside: Your family member/friend/love/etc. has a past life. You weren't a part of it-- but they've found the people who were. How does that feel?
Other: There's so very many reincarnation AU ideas out there! Play them out!

( open to any canon point and most interested in Friends, Lovers, or It's Complicated for the AU types. Situation wise the ones I'm most interested in are Found, Memory, Repeat, or Marked are my jam but I can work with all of them tbh combining them together could be fun too! m/m for shippy stuff and 25+ for age. Also cool with cross-canon stuff with established CR! )

[ Part of Jayce had always known something was missing in his life. He liked the life he had been living, though. But if he had said something to someone about it, he was certain they would say he was crazy. After all, he liked his job, he liked his house, he liked the things he could do in his free time. He wanted for nothing, so it would be odd for him to think that there's anything missing. But he knows that something about his life feels off.

Anything he accomplished felt smaller and almost shallow. Despite that, he still pushed himself forward and worked to do whatever was demanded of him. Even if it was shallow, he still wanted to put as much good as he could into the world. Today was going to be filled with meetings, so he knew it wouldn't be terribly exciting for him.

Part of his brain was pulling at him telling him to just skip. They would be fine handled without him. The rest of him thought it was best he's there to show his work. He had been working past a book shop when he spotted the man, and there was that hint of recognition that hit him. He couldn't place why, and he couldn't explain why he stopped, either. But he stopped in his tracks and stared through the window at that man - thinking. Would it be too creepy to ask if they've met when he's pretty sure they haven't? ]

[ Much of Viktor's life has been the same. On the surface level of thought he found himself content with what his life was and what it had amounted to, but deeper down it was as if something was missing. Like a part of himself was missing and he couldn't properly put it into words there wasn't some psychological reason for it either. His bookshop was doing well and he himself was fine if a bit bored when it was slow at the shop.

But in reality, he was fine and doing well for himself so then why...did he often wake up feeling this way? The dreary day makes his bad leg hurt as he goes to tidy up the window display only to be met with staring eyes from a handsome stranger out on the street. His heart seemingly skips a beat as their eyes lock and remain so for an embarrassingly long amount of time?? But he's not going to pursue that right now. He'll quickly cough and avert his attention, his focus directed back onto the display at hand as he fumbles and hurriedly fixes the books.

Strange he feels like he's met him before but he can't quite place it. ]

[ Despite the other seeming to look away, Jayce doesn't immediately. He watches for another moment then decides that he's going to go with his impulses and indulge himself. He's going to see if he can figure out what he knows this man from. He doesn't know if there's a way to not sound creepy while doing it, but he's going to try his hardest. He steps inside the store and instead of browsing books he makes a straight line for that beautiful man he had spotted.

That he should think is a stranger, but part of his mind keeps telling him he's not. Though Jayce can't place him and he can't imagine himself forgetting a face like that. He doesn't give the guy a chance to even speak first, he just asks: ]

Do I know you from somewhere? [ And just to cover his tracks. ] And no, it's not just some line. [ Unless ... ]

[ Oh no. Oh shit. Viktor was not expecting this to happen. Well, maybe he secretly wanted it to happen, but still, he was not prepared for this at all. He will cough when addressed eyes immediately going to Jayce and his lips, face, eyes. He's even more gorgeous up close. He has to look away as he finishes putting away some books left out, his cane balanced against the bookshelf before he takes it in hand and straightens. ]

I'm afraid I don't recall if we do. [ He feels his face getting warm... ] You do realize that is exactly what it sounds like, yes?

[ He looks and sounds amused as he gives Jayce a look. ]

[ He's got no real way to defend himself here. Of course it sounds like a line. He's certain he's heard men use that exactly phrase on women in attempts to flirt with them. He could count on one hand the amount of times he's seen a line like that work on someone, too. But at least the other seems amused by him rather than totally put off by his not-a-line. ]

I do know. But that doesn't mean I don't mean it. [ Because he does mean it. Viktor does look familiar to him. It's strange the way his face seems to be in his memory without being able to connect it to any specific event. ]

I do walk by this shop almost daily. Maybe that's why....[ It's not like he always looks in, though. A small smile. He's managing to get by without looking bashful, but he is feeling like he should be a little embarrassed. He's not, though. He offers his hand. ]

Jayce Talis.

Hm. [ Viktor is just squinting and giving Jayce a look as if he's crazy but also it's a look that holds some curiosity in it. The more they interact the more he feels a certain connection with this man, strange to be sure, and it's not because of his handsome face or the words he's throwing out there.

There is something there that he can't quite put his finger on. Viktor blinks at the offered hand before giving his own for a handshake. ] Viktor.

[ No last name or he just doesn't want to give it, you decide! ] I have seen you more than once, yes. [ And then, teasing- ] I was starting to wonder if I would have to call the authorities. But at least you weren't following me home, so there's that.

[ Viktor, stop. ]

[ He's snappy and funny. Jayce finds it cute. He hadn't been expecting to be totally charmed within a few moments of conversation, but here he was - charmed. Jayce can appreciate the fact that Viktor experienced zero hesitation in jumping right to teasing him.

He smiles, unbothered by the tease. ]

Well, calling the authorities is one way to learn my name.

[ He can play, too. ]

This place is on my way to work. [ Which he was steadily on his way to skipping for the day. ] I've been meaning to stop in since it -- [ Well, you - ] caught my eye. [ Clears his throat. ] The books did. I mean.

[ Plus Viktor was familiar. He was still sorting out. He just needed to buy more time with this guy. Hes sure just more time would help him piece something together. But Jayce knew that he didn't want to leave him. ]

Judging by how you're looking at me, my shop is probably the last thing to catch your eye. [ Amused and natural. Somehow he feels at ease with Jayce despite them both being complete strangers. ] Lying upfront like that. You're not very good at it.

[ Viktor will murmur as he smirks ever so slightly. ] So. What might I do for you, Jayce?

[ He says his name with a testing lilt to it. ] Aside from conversation, are you looking for a particular book or recommendations?

I've been told I'm a bad liar before. [ Has he? Who said that? It's a strange feeling. It's like he can remember someone teasing him over his attempts at lying, but he can't recall the face or voice. It's a strange case of deja vu he's experiencing around Viktor. Like pieces of his memory are starting to come back together. But he is certain someone has told him that. ]

Actually -- a book, too. A couple. I'm always looking to read something new on engineering. But I got recommended this one about biology.

[ He's thoughtful. ]

I'm not sure what they're called, but I will know them when I see them.

Not sure what they're called... [ he can't help but laugh at that. Incredible. Some people are just...built differently he supposed. The lack of preparedness makes Viktor laugh but he grabs his cane and finally walks from around the front desk. He will motion for Jayce to follow along. ]

Biology books are in the back left corner here. [ He points with his cane before he continues. ] Engineering here. If you had a title I could have looked it up in the system but, ah, since you don't we will just have to do this the old-fashioned way.

[ Since the store isn't busy at the moment Viktor will opt into helping Jayce out. Jayce was charming and amusing, and he couldn't help himself as he stared for far too long at the other's broad back while he rummaged through the books. There was that strange feeling again welling up in his chest as he watched the other man work. He found himself getting flustered as he looked away. He was taking out several books for the other to look at and about to set them down on a small table meant for a quiet reprieve and some relaxation when his bad leg gave out slightly. Shit he will fall forward with a pained surprised gasp. ]

[ Instincts that he didn't know he had kicked in immediately upon hearing the smallest shift in Viktor's weight. He moved, getting down to help catch the other when he fell forward. Careful to make sure, above things, Viktor did not hit the ground. He does think it's odd how easily he reacts to it and how natural it feels to even have a hand on Viktor. He can't place it and it's frustrating to him. ]

You don't have to get anything for me, you know?

[ He shifts, working to help get the other back on his feet. He doesn't want to be pushy about the help he gives. He doesn't want the guy to think that he thinks he needs the help, either. ]

There's probably a better way to get me to play hero for you.
