Arranged

Marriage for love is a such a modern concept. In the past, marriage was
recognised as a social contract. Unions were entered into for many
reasons: to obtain property, to unite families, to carry on a bloodline,
et cetera. Whatever the reason, congratulations, you're getting married!
How to Play:
Post with your character | fandom | and any preferences.
Be sure to mention any scenarios you are interested or not interested in playing.
Tag Others.
Be awesome to each other.
Have fun!
POSSIBLE REASONS:
STATION: You come from a royal, noble, or otherwise distinguished family who has chosen a suitable spouse for you.
FEUD: You are being married to put an end to the bitter enmity between your two families.
ECONOMICS: Your economic state and/or your station will improve through the union, though one of you may be marrying down.
EMPIRE: You and your spouse are merging your businesses and/or property to create something more influential or profitable.
TRIBUTE: You have been offered as a gift or appeasement, alternately you're the spoils of war.
BLOODLINE: Carrying on your distinguished family name has fallen to you and the equally well-bred spouse of your family's selection.
DISAPPROVAL: Your marriage has been arranged to keep you away from the person with whom you truly wish to be.
POSSIBLE SCENARIOS
FIRST MEETING: This is the very first time you're meeting your future spouse.
COURTSHIP: To get to know each other and encourage affection, your family has approved of you going on dates.
ENGAGEMENT PARTY: Be it a huge, formal affair or a small, intimate get together, you're celebrating (or pretending).
WEDDING DAY: The big day!
RECEPTION: The big party!
WEDDING NIGHT: Every meme needs a smut prompt, right?
HONEYMOON: Where will you go with your new spouse and what will you do there?

So when they were finally left alone, in the grand chambers of their newly appointed bedrooms Decembra was both nervous and relieved for the privacy. She had changed with the help of her servants, removing the heavy gown and adornments from her hair to a simple silken slip. It hugged the wide curves of her body, far lighter than the heavy material she had been wearing before. A robe closed loosely around it, and she wandered from her changing rooms into their main bedroom nervously running her fingers through her mane of hair.
When she found him, she took a moment to observe him. She had found him attractive immediately, the stark contrast of the rich brown skin to his pale glow was appealing. His hair rich and vibrant made her wonder just how it would feel beneath her fingers.
"Well, wasn't today such a stiff affair?" she said lightly as she approached him, offering him a weary smile. The day had been long, but there were other, important things they still needed to do and it hung over them like a cloud.
[ooc:hope this works for you, happy to change anything if it doesn't]

Now that they had been left alone together he felt at a loss for words. Fidgeting with the ornate hem of his wedding robe while frantically wracking his brain for something to say. Anything to break this heavy silence as his... well his wife now, he supposed, though it still felt odd to say it even within his own mind, removed the heavy wedding adornments. As she removes the gown he averts his eyes while his face flushes.
She was a beautiful woman, one had to be blind not to see it. He just hopes he will not make a fool of himself this night, for he had no idea what he was doing.
"Most certainly. I could have gone without all the pomp and circumstance personally, but the court does have it's expectations that they are loath to compromise on," he says with a weary smile of his own.

"Dreadful bunch, the court" she said with a soft chuckle offering him the glass, "I would have far preferred a far more intimate wedding. And perhaps to be able to speak to my new husband without an audience," she said her fingers brushing against his as she handed him the glass.
"It's a pleasure, to finally have you to myself Maedhros" she said warmly, her voice filled with sincerity. "I wanted to tell you how stunning you looked today, Despite the stiffness, you were a welcome sight"
She was trying to ease the tension, her own nervousness making her toy with a strand of her hair, and take a long sip of her wine.
sorry it took a while, works been crazy...
"That they are," he says with a grin as he thankfully accepts the wine offered. "I would have liked that as well. If I'd had a choice in the matter I would have preffered to marry in the old way. A simple wedding beneath the stars, and no chaperones to keep the intended two from speaking of more than simple pleasantries."
"Aye, it is good to be able to speak more openly with one another," he says with a warm smile before blushing again at the compliment. "You are kind to say so. But I think you far outshone me this day, my lady, for you looked positively radiant."
He was sure they'd work through the awkwardness with time. For, though he did not know her well, he felt they'd probably get along well with one another. He could already see himself coming to care for her quite a bit. This wedding might have been arranged for them but he was certain they could make it their own with time.
No worries, life has been kicking my butt as of late. So I get the feeling
"Thank you, I wouldn't say I outshone you, but I do appreciate you enjoyed how I looked. It was the only thing I desired when choosing the dress" she said admiring him for a moment. She could easily find herself becoming more comfortable with him, even grow to love him in time. And time was all they had now with each other, she hoped she could fill it with love and affection as it passed.
She reached out and took his hand, lacing their fingers together her thumb rubbing against the back of his hand as she looked at him. "I wished we had had time to court properly before...this" she said with a gentle gesture towards the bed. It wasn't something they could ignore, the last step in making their marriage binding.
"Still, I am glad it is you" she said softly taking a chance to lean up to press a kiss to his cheek, the action causing her body to press against his her hand squeezing his gently as she did so.

"You have a fine eye for dresses then, my lady, for that one made you look like a star had come down from the heaven's to grace us with it's prescence." Though, he thinks, he'd have thought so even had she worn a burlap sack to the wedding. For she was most beautiful.
He gave her hand a comforting squeeze in turn. "Aye, I wish that as well," he says with some regret. For he'd have liked to get to know her better before they were expected to... do their duties as a wedded couple. "Yet I am not sad that it is you, my lady. In fact I find myself glad that it is you and not another, for I think... I think we are well matched for eachother and I'd like to think we'll grow to care for one another quite a lot."
It is too early yet to say wether or not love will grow between them, he would like it if it did, but if not love then at least friendship and fondness. He lays a warm hand against her cheek and bends his head down to softly kiss her on the lips.

The squeeze of his hand calmed her, and she was relieved that he felt the same. That they had had a moment to get to know one another before this. His words made her heart skip a beat, happiness welling in her. "I feel the same," she said softly her breath catching in her throat as his hand moved to cup her face.
The kiss was both expected and not, but it was welcomed happily with a sigh. Her eyes fluttered shut and a hand moved to rest on his shoulder as she leaned into the kiss, returning it. She kissed him gently, a soft hum leaving her as pleasure shivered through her. She broke it, only to look at him for a moment before kissing him again, this time deeper, hungrier. She pressed close her arm looping around his neck, her hand sliding up into his hair as she kissed him.

Reithwin has grown for generations, Rava's hand on her shoulder, steady with its wrinkled warmth. And the Thorms its stewards. You’ll have guidance, and they your glow, and you must swear to not forget us,
A moon ago - before the journey, and the meeting, and the strained air about town. There are kind faces here, there are weary ones; that of her intended is seen infrequently at best. Ketheric: A paladin of Selune, and himself reportedly a convert. He was born into this, but it’s the dead wife who won his faith.
When they speak, he is composed, but distant. He’s pleased to share in the light of Hare’s Bend (he does not smile), compelled by her story (he does not ask), bids her all peace and belonging (he does not stay). The Towers are hers to roam, for all that certain keys do not make their way onto the ring. Slipping past the locks finds thick dust on soft sheets.
Isobel died young, died violently, and no one can supply a reason.
The Thorm bloodline remains - by rumor, and a drunk with the same thick nose. There are no expectations of her. Even so, it might have come sooner, the creak of heel on board; the heavy frame that steps onto balcony beside her.
"I’ve given you poor welcome."

in retrospect, it is almost embarrassing how easy it was to say yes. Rava hadn't needed to press her much to persuade her; she had been all too eager to please the venerable mother, to make herself of use to the enclave, to take the steps that would lead her to a place of her own. So at first, the unease that sets in feels like ingratitude.
And then, writing dutifully, something else.
Her footsteps in the thick dust; his side of the bed, cold. A part of her that she isn't proud of had almost been relieved to decide that no, there is something wrong here — that she is not imagining the way the shadows lengthen, the glances between the townsfolk, the coldness in the air. That part of her had not imagined feeling so adrift in this new life, walking alongside Melodia's ghost, the lack of expectations upon her nearly smothering her with silence.
Her head turns slightly as he joins her; enough to acknowledge, if not to meet. Acknowledgment, too, in the light way she says: “You have,” not unkindly, even still. Her hands wrap around her elbows, and the dusk-light is low enough that her eyes are beginning to adapt, and she has learned the names of every person in every place that she can see from here, and feels no closer to even the one whose name she now shares.
theyre not red yet thx
— Absence. His eyes measure hers, the colour of the filmy clouds above. Patience has asked they move quietly, the satisfaction of open challenge itself a trap toward feeling. Connections unforged cannot be broken. Quietly,
"I’ve none to offer you."
An admission, perhaps strange for its own certainty. (Perhaps not. Only stubborn men swear oaths.)
aw isobel got dad's eyes. how nice.
she swallows them, for now, instead. None, is it? He offers something to those that follow him, and where the air is not thick with unease it carries the sharp tang of fanaticism. It isn't lost on her the way some conversations quiet when she nears, and not only his or his advisors; she had not expected to be looked at with such suspicion by the Selûnites of Reithwin, broadly. To be held at arm's length by the shadows dogging Ketheric's heels and the people she'd come here thinking to join, too.
Accusations, she thinks, will serve her little for now. She has too little grip on any of it.
She thinks: Perhaps I have, and says instead,
“What, then?” and makes it as honest a question as his sure admission. The tilt of a smile at the corner of her mouth invites him into a rueful joke, “To quiet Rava?”
She knows her reasons. She has thought, more and more, on what his might have been for conceding to this marriage of nothing in particular.

rudbeckia de borgia ( htwmho ) ota
in summary: the sweet, cheerful, slightly dim-witted princess of the Borgia family – actually a manipulative liar who is always putting on a performance to please others so that they won't harm her. Ruby has spent her whole life being controlled, abused, and shunned as an outsider; as a result she's a bitter victim, deeply distrustful of people and resigned to her suffering. she'll do anything to survive, even if she's miserable. always happy to AU into other canons and generic scenarios!
her canon backstory comes with four previous marriages that were all annulled, so this is her area of expertise. ☆ )
