His hand finally melts through to the other side of the metal and it lets him get his fingers in position. It's easier then because he can use the heat of his hand like a knife and cut a hole out of the metal sheet with the flat of his hand. There's still resistance but its faster than just making a hole. He can hear the explosions behind him, hear the gunfire, feel the way the ground shakes sometimes but he keeps his hand steady and his curving cut controlled. Too much and he'll weaken the entire metal plate and he's pretty sure its the only thing holding up this part of the building's front. Too small and not everyone will be able to get out.
